Turns out, Google is about a century behind the times. Check out these scans from a 1907 Rand MacNally atlas, (that's a book version of Google Maps / GPS turn-by-turn gadgets for those of you under 2 decades old). Complete with curvy arrows and unsuspecting photo stars.
