To Buick, or not to Buick

I am currently without a vehicle, well, actually I still have my van, but it is broken down. And, a friend at church is letting me borrow his car, with the possiblity of buying it later. His only request was that I put car insurance on it. So I called up my provider for a car insurance quote, and got full coverage on the car - (it's a 1997 Buick Regal v6). I like the car, I'm just not sure if I can afford it. And I am about to start working from home, so I don't know that I actually need a car. But time will tell.
